RE: Cultivate

Hey Expressionists!

Come join us for the opening reception for RE: Cultivate Thursday, October 7th, 6-7pm in the UU Gallery. This is a response to our mud artwork Cultivate this past spring. Using photographs, the exhibit captures mud art in a new and unique way showing the growth, process of making, and the details of the artwork.

Check it out! Enjoy refreshments, appreciate art, and see what we have in store for this quarter! In the UU Gallery Thursday from 6-7pm! See you there.

If you aren't able to attend the opening, RE: Cultivate will be open all quarter in the UU Gallery at the ASI Epicenter. Stop by and take a look!

Peace & Love,

Our growing art project: cultivate!

Expressionist Cody here, wanting to fill you in on some of what's happening:

As some of you may know, we recently had an artistic fling in the atrium of the Kennedy Library, on campus.  Cultivate -- as it was named -- was a stenciled, mud art mural.  There couldn't have been a better medium to litter the ground with organic designs and then let the refreshing rains of San Luis Obispo wash them away harmlessly afterwards.

A success, as is anytime you get to be madly creative, Cultivate made a cameo appearance in front of our booth at the WOW Block Party.  It'll be making one more appearance, in the nearby future, as we try to draw in more students, faculty, and any passerby with a good eye.

Keep your eyes peeled for flyers and signs of our antics!  We currently have a project underway to help you find the many artistic outlets on campus more easily, but I'll leave you to ponder on that for now.

Wishing I had more of my Legos on hand,
Cody -- an Expressionist

Hi, my name is Expressionist

Hello everyone, my name is Cody, and I am an Expressionist.  For those of you who don't know, here's a brief history of our club/artistic circle/excuse to be creative:

The Expressionist were first formed in the Spring of 2009, born out of a need for a class project and and greater need for artistic outlets.  For our debut, we created a ten foot long mural, featuring a series of five canvases around the central theme of creativity.  In this way, we were able to showcase how a variety of mediums -- acrylics, spray paint, photo collages, pastels, and charcoals -- could impart a range of emotions and feelings that, we feel, the public doesn't get enough.
By the following Fall, we were an official chartered club on campus at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.  Our goal is to seek out those hidden jewels of art, tucked away in societies dark corners, and bring them out to the public's notice.  Beauty is something that can be found virtually anywhere, you just have to find it.  We're here to help.

We'll be using this page to let you know what we've been up to, what's going on right now, and what we have planned for the future.  We're always up to something, so check back here often for updates from our various officers!  If you have an idea for us, or want to get an even healthier dose of art in your life, feel free to contact us through our blogspot, or our by e-mailing us at the.expressionist@gmail.com.

   Welcome to The Expressionists.

Always doodling,
Cody Kim -- an Expressionist
